Reiner Gies

Reiner Gies ( born March 12, 1963 in Kaiserslautern ) is a retired German boxer.

Amateur career

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul Reiner Gies won the bronze medal in boxing in the lightweight class at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles he reached fifth place, he lost there in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Pernell Whitaker Americans. In 1986 he also took part in the amateur world championships in Reno, where he lost from the Soviet Union in the quarterfinals against Orsubek Nazarov.

Gies was in three weight class seven times German Amateur Champion: 1982 Featherweight, 1983, 1985 and 1986 in the lightweight as well as 1984, 1987 and 1989 in the light welterweight. He fought for the 1st FC Kaiserslautern and the CSC Frankfurt and played more than 300 amateur fights. His best fight as an amateur, he played in 1984 when Intercup in Karlsruhe when he beat the three -time world champion and Olympic gold medalist Ángel Herrera of Cuba on points. In a tournament victory in Canada, he was chosen as the best technicians of the tournament to the " Lord of the Ring", the name " The Lord " he added, then at the professional boxers as a pseudonym.

Professional

In 1991 he moved into the professional camp. As a professional boxer, he became International German welterweight champion and IBF Intercontinental champion. After almost three years as a professional boxer and two defeats in 1994, he ended his active career.
