Reintal (Wetterstein)

Reintal the upper and lower valley of the Partnach between the Zugspitze and the Partnachklamm is called.

The valley was created during the Ice Age, the " Reintalgletscher " and, absorbed in the post-glacial period, after retreat of the glacier to the peripheral location of Schneefernerhaus head by the Partnach. The embossed from Reintalgletscher and today trained as Trogtal Reintal upper ends between the high Gaifkopf in the west and in the east Schachen. The lower Reintal is already in the area of the former glacial sea of Loisach glacier, the flowing not the Reintalgletscher from the southwest. It is designed as a V-shaped valley and mainly dominated by the mountain stream Partnach.

Together with the valleys in the north divided Reintal the Wettersteingebirge in several mountain ridges. The northern framing is of the ridges of the Höllentalbahn peaks ( 2743 m) and the High Gaifkopf (1864 m ) is formed. The highest points of the southern side of the valley are located on high Wanner ( 2744 m), the Hinterreintalschrofen ( 2,670 m ) and the Dreitorspitze ( 2682 m). The valley floor is situated in an altitude range between 1400 m above sea level. NN on Partnachursprung, 1002 m above sea level. NN outset of the Back Gorge and 797 m above sea level. NN at the beginning of Partnachklamm in the upper Reintal ie circa 1300-850 m below the surrounding mountain peaks. In the upper Reintal masses also play a role in the valley formation of rock falls from the north faces of Hochwanner and Hinterreintalschrofen. Through them, the former Trogtalboden is spilled, pushed the barrel of the Partnach to the north and in places dammed.

Due to landslides originated around 1800, Front and Rear Blue Gumpe. The former was completely filled on 23 August 2005 by heavy rainfall (200 mm in 24 h) with sediment again, which broke through the high pressure of the natural dam. The flood - tidal wave caused significant damage in other Talverlauf.

Within the Reintals a less steeply sloping path leads to the Zugspitze, which portion is to Knorrhütte part of the red route of the Via Alpina. Set in the valley accommodation houses Bockhütte and Reintalangerhuette serve hikers and mountain climbers as a starting point for many tours.

Due to the large distance to the place and there are no roads lead into the valley, it is despite the slight accessibility undeveloped and still very close to nature. Together with the Wimbachtal in Berchtesgaden include the Reintal presumably the most impressive large, natural valleys of the Bavarian Alps. The upper Reintal is protected as a nature reserve.
