Rem Viakhirev

Rem Ivanovich Wjachirew (Russian Рэм Иванович Вяхирев, scientific transliteration Rem Ivanovich Vjachirev; born August 23, 1934 in Bolshaya Chernigovka, Kuibyshev Oblast (now Samara Oblast ), Volga Federal District, † February 11, 2013 ) was a Russian industrial managers. From 1992 to May 2001, he was chairman of the Russian energy group Gazprom.

His first name Rem is an invented word, and is composed of the initial letters of revolution, Engels and Marx.

Wjachirew graduated 1956, the Industrial College of Kuibyshev and then worked on various oil fields in the Kuibyshev Oblast. In the 1970s, he was chairman of a state natural gas company. From 1983 to 1985 he was deputy to the Soviet minister for natural gas production, since 1986, his first deputy. In 1989 he moved to Gazprom and became first deputy chairman, from 1992, he took over the position of CEO.

Wjachirew it one of the designated " Red bosses " CPSU cadres who seamlessly took a leadership position in former state-owned enterprises after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

On 30 May 2001 Wjachirew was - officially for health reasons - dismissed as CEO. His successor in that office was Alexei Miller.
