The small Asian Smyrna (Greek Smírni ), today's Izmir, formed by the Greek -Turkish War ( 1919-1922 ) and up to the massacres in the years 1919 and 1922, a melting pot of different ethnicities and cultures. There was a kind of " minstrel " who went from one tavern to another, or accepted a commitment for a certain time and then moved on. The venues were clearly men meeting and there was in these pubs usually a harsher tone than in smyrnäischen cafe. Often these taverns were also an attraction for social outsiders, for pimps and criminals smaller and larger caliber. Especially the pimp impressed with its extravagant appearance that ambiance in which it was played music.

In this environment, small Marika grows. They experienced a constantly drunken father, the mother of frustration and practicality an affair with her boss, the coffee house owners. The situation escalates, her father kills before the eyes of the little mother. My other life is as eventful as dramatic.

The film shows impressive music and a near continuous portrayal of the difficult living conditions of returnees.
