Stavros Xarchakos

Stavros Xarchakos (Greek Σταύρος Ξαρχάκος - mostly Stavros Xarhakos transcribed; born March 14, 1939 in Athens ) is a Greek composer, conductor and politician.

Manos Hadjidakis and Mikis Theodorakis In addition, he is considered one of the most important Greek composers. He studied music in Athens, Paris and New York. Earlier in his career he joined mainly distinguished by its compositions for theater and film. Later, he turned to his interest in classical music. Since 1995 Xarchakos is the conductor of the State Orchestra of Greek Music ( Kom ). With its composed in the rebetiko style songs for the film rembetika by Kostas Ferris he has triggered a renaissance of the genre in Greece.

From 2000 to 2004 he was a member of New Democracy in the European Parliament.
