The Renau arises between the Kahler Asten and the northern Bremberg and then flows in a generally northwesterly direction. At the sheep Bridge, just above a hunting lodge Siedlinghausen that Renau crosses the country, 742 of Rehsiepen after Siedlinghausen and ends shortly thereafter in the Negro. The Renautal has typical cross formations through small ice-age glaciers and is almost completely forested.

The source is located only a few meters from the Rhine -Weser watershed away. The Renau is longer at its mouth and watered as the negroes, and these in turn with its mouth just south of Olsberg watered and longer than the Ruhr.

Economy and culture

In the lower Renautal a drinking water reservoir was planned with a capacity of 18 million m³.

Almost the entire valley bottoms along the Renau and its tributaries includes the 98.37 -hectare nature reserve Gutmecke and Renau, home to many plant and animal species that are on the Red List.
