René Verheyen

René Verheyen ( born March 21, 1952 in Beerse ) is a retired Belgian footballer.

Playing career

Verheyen began his time in the men's football probably at KFC Turnhout, where until 1974 he entered the 1971 in appearance, before he moved to SC Lokeren. In the eight years in Lokeren he could get no title. In 1982 he moved to FC Bruges. In the De Boers, he won the Belgian Cup and in the same year the Belgian Supercup 1986. After the successful years at Atlantic, he spent one year at KAA Gent. After another one year with the people of Ghent he let his career with the club unterklassigen White Star Lauwe Menen finish. In 1989, he finished his career.

International players career

Verheyen participated in the European Football Championship in 1980 partly in Italy and has been with the team vice European champion. With the Football World Cup 1982 in Spain, he met with the Belgians until in the second group stage, but retired there as a group last. Two years later at the European Football Championship in 1984 in France, they came across a group of third place is not out in the first round.

Career as a coach

Three years after his playing career end Verheyen 1992 assistant coach at FC Bruges. After seven years as an assistant coach, he was allowed to try as a head coach in the 1999/2000 season. In 2000 he was an assistant coach again and held the office until 2006. In his time on the coaching staff of Bruges, he won four times, the Belgian Championship, five times the Belgian Cup and seven times the Belgian Supercup.
