School records in the United States

Generally

In the U.S., the school districts decide on the form of school reports and how frequently certificates are issued. Students of elementary schools will usually get three, rarely four certificates per school year. In high school, however, usually two certificates per school year will be issued.

The shape of the school report (report card ) may differ significantly from school to school and varies mostly with the grade level. In many American schools today certificates are issued wholly produced on the computer and do not contain any handwritten items. As in Germany, the guardians must acknowledge receipt of the certificate with their signature.

Primary school certificates

In primary school certificates take the place of the otherwise customary grading system ( with grades from A to F) in many cases the assessment levels excellent, very good, satisfactory and needs improvement.

The biggest difference to practice in Germany is that the structure of the primary school certificates not carried out according to subjects, but according to the individual skills that are developed in the classroom. Since the states holding primary schools to an extremely detailed evaluation of pupils whose testimonies are considerably larger than corresponding German products. For four to six parameters for the reading, four to seven parameters for the mathematical competence and many other parameters for writing, listening, speaking and spelling can be tested and evaluated in the testimonies of the grade levels K. Special attention is given to social competence and functioning (work habits ), which are also evaluated with six to nine parameters. In addition, fundamental American school reports regularly contain room for individual comments of the class teacher. According to their form, however, the certificates differ from school district to school district, and even within individual school districts subject to the form of frequent changes.

Subjects such as art, music and sports, in which not the class teachers, subject teachers teach but are not included in primary school reports. In professional sports, however, evaluations are possible, which may provide clues to individual motor strengths and deficits of a child instead of a pure performance evaluation.
