Republic of Prekmurje

The Murrepublik or Republic of Prekmurje (Slovenian Murska republika, Hungarian Mura Köztársaság or Vendvidéki Köztársaság, prekmurisch Respublika Slovenska okroglina, Respublika Mörska ) was proclaimed in Hungary 1919 ( on the territory of modern Prekmurje, Slovenia ), but disbanded after only 6 days.

Prehistory

Hungarian refugees and exiles founded in April 1919 in Vienna, the " Anti-Bolshevist Committee " under Count Istvan Bethlen. Their goal was the weakening of the Hungarian Soviet Republic under Béla Kun, and to this end they even supported Slovenian secession on Hungarian territory. The majority of the Slovenian population of the Habsburg monarchy had lived in the Austrian half and already joined the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. The Prekmurje region east of the Mur was, however, been part of the Hungarian half of the empire, and therefore was under in the spring of 1919, the Hungarian Soviet Republic.

Declaration of Independence

On May 29, 1919 ( now called the Hotel Zvezda ) was on the balcony of the hotel Dobray in Murska Sobota proclaimed the Independent Murrepublik. It was initiated by the Slovenian teachers Vilmos Tkálecz, who had served as an officer in the First World War. He appealed to the Hungarian Soviet Republic, to respect the self-determination of the Slovenian people.

Crackdown
