Requiem (Rutter)

The Requiem by John Rutter is a composition for soprano solo, mixed chorus and small orchestra or organ with an instrumental ensemble.

The Requiem was first performed on 13 October 1985 in Lovers' Lane United Methodist Church, Dallas, Texas. The performance lasts about 40 minutes.

Rutter keeps at his work not to the normal conduct of the funeral Mass, as it is defined in the Catholic liturgy, but modified them by significant parts of the Requiem Mass at Psalm texts from the Book of Common Prayer ( the liturgical and catechetical book Anglican Church ) of 1662 supplemented. Other parts of the Requiem Mass are omitted.

An important part of the work is the re-occurring micro- polyphony.
