John Rutter

John Rutter CBE (* September 24 1945 in London ) is an English choral conductor and composer.

Rutter was educated at Clare College, Cambridge Music and was from 1975 to 1979 whose music director. In 1981 he founded the Cambridge Singers, which he has since then, a professional chamber choir, which focuses mainly on recordings. Rutter is currently regarded as one of the greatest and most popular composers of choral and church music.

Musically, he can be assigned to postmodernism. His works are anchored in the European cadence harmony, this framework treat but highly competent and original. A multi-layered harmony and rhythm, which also receives jazz elements, and a great melodic inventiveness give Rutter's music suggestive power. It also textual and melodic quotes from go far back to be incorporated.
