Research Institute for Operations Management

The FIR eV at RWTH Aachen University is an independent, RWTH Aachen University affiliated research organization dedicated to the legal form of a registered association practice-relevant research questions of business organization and business development. The aim of the Institute is the development of methods to increase, preserve and restore competitiveness, especially for small and medium businesses.

History

The FIR was founded in 1953 as a Research Institute for Operations under the sponsorship of the " Association for the Promotion of Research Institutes of rationalization " in Aachen. In addition to representatives of science and industry and the North Rhine -Westphalian Ministry of Economy and Transport was among the initiators. The original goal of the Institute was the increase in productivity for the German domestic market. It was financed by the state budget. In 1977, the Institute is one of the first Blue List institutes was and was funded until 1984 in half from federal funds and state funds. In 1984 the Institute was initially continued as a State Institute.

Since the establishment of the Institute was a cooperation with the " Institute for Human Factors " of the RWTH Aachen. In 1986, the cooperation with the IAW has been formalized in a contract with the RWTH Aachen, since it 's called an affiliated institute.

Work areas

The activities of the FIR aim is to systematically develop the operational organization for the " Enterprise of the Future " and an example to implement. The developed methods and tools to be particularly small and medium-sized enterprises provided. In the relationship between theory and practice, the Institute is engaged in applied research with active participation by the companies. The research results are industry and business related processed in order to promote the transfer to the company.
