The Research Institute of Molecular Pathology ( Institute of Molecular Pathology, IMP) is a private non-profit research institute for Molecular Biology in Vienna. The Institute is headed by Jan- Michael Peters. The previous directors were Barry J. Dickson, Kim Nasmyth and Max Birnstiel.

The IMP was founded in 1985 as a joint venture between the international pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim and the U.S. biotechnology company Genentech. After the founding of IMP originated in the district of Sankt Marx ( in the district of Landstraße) other research institutions, companies and training programs that make up the Campus Vienna Biocenter.

The IMP conducts basic research in the fields of cell biology, neuroscience and molecular medicine. With the help of suitable model systems to basic biological processes in healthy and diseased organism are studied. The IMP provides it to places for PhD students and postdoctoral fellows. The research results are published in scientific journals. The rights for the commercial exploitation of patents or for any further development of therapeutically relevant substances are at Boehringer Ingelheim, which since 1993 has been the sole shareholder of the IMP.
