Resi Hammerer

Therese " Resi" Hammerer ( born February 18, 1925 in Hirschegg; † 14 June 2010) was an Austrian alpine skier. She won the bronze medal in the downhill at the Winter Olympics in 1948, was four times Austrian Champion and won several international races.

Career

Hammerer began as a teenager with the ski racing. The Vorarlberg from the Kleinwalsertal attended trade school in the Swabian town of Oberstdorf in 1944 and 1945 Swabian champion. In 1946, it achieved the Austrian countries meeting in iron ore with two third place finishes in downhill and slalom second place in the combined score. In the same year she also managed the first victory in the downhill of Gamperney derbies in Grabs.

In the winter of 1946/47, Hammerer won in the race for the White Ribbon in St. Moritz the departure and the combination, was second in the downhill Grabs and Austrian Champion in slalom. In the 1947/48 season, the Vorarlberg achieved two third places in departure and combination of the West Cup in Lech. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 in St. Moritz, she won behind the Swiss and the Austrian Hedy Schlunegger Trude Beiser the bronze medal in the downhill, finishing in seventh place in the slalom. But in combination they fell after a botched Combined Slalom (Rank 17) to 12th place back.

In the winter of 1948/49, Hammerer won the Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbühel, finishing there second place in the slalom and combination. Also Second, she was in St. Anton in the slalom and combination of the Arlberg - Kandahar race in the downhill, she came in third place. In Villach, she won three Austrian Champion in downhill, slalom and combined. At the World Cup 1950 in Aspen Hammerer fell short of expectations and got a medal. Best result was seventh in the giant slalom. In the subsequent North American races you get even a giant slalom victory on Mount Lincoln in the Sugar Bowl. After the season, she finished her sporting career.

As early as 1949 Hammerer began producing its own ski wear and opened a sports fashion store in Bregenz. In the 1950s and 1960s was followed by other branches in Vienna and Linz. In addition to the winter clothing she became known internationally, especially for their costumes and Loden collections and has received several awards.
