Respekt

Respect is an appearing in the Czech Republic weekly newspaper with a focus on politics, economy, science and culture.

Respect is considered liberal paper and stands for investigative journalism in-depth articles. So played Respect for example a crucial role in educating the luxury apartment affair of the former Czech Prime Minister Stanislav Gross.

History

Respect was founded soon after the collapse of the communist regime in Czechoslovakia by dissidents as one of the first independent newspapers and was first called Informační servis Občanského Fora ( German: Information Service of the Civic Forum ). Since 1990, the newspaper carries its current name.

Some managers and employees of respect made ​​later political career, such as the long-serving Czech Interior Minister January Ruml.

The mid-1990s reached the edition with over 100,000 copies sold its peak. In 1996, the weekly newspaper of Karel Schwarzenberg was purchased. In the following years, however, the rest went back, the editor of the R- PRESS, spol. s R.O. was in the red.

In June 2006, Zdeněk Bakala rose as a new investor, and set up as new director Milos Cermak. Dissatisfied with this decision announced in September 2006, almost all editorial staff their contracts. A few weeks later there was still an agreement, the new Chief Editor was Martin M. Šimečka, former chief editor of the Slovak daily SME. Šimečka was replaced in January 2009 as chief editor by Erik Tabery.
