Rexburg is a city and county seat of Madison County in the U.S. state of Idaho. The town is the birthplace of E. Cardon Walker, an American manager.

Geography

Rexburg is located on the eastern edge of the Snake River Plain near the St. Anthony Sand Dunes, on the western entrance to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton. In the third Rexburg Idaho Mormon Temple was built. The city covers an area of 12.8 km ² (5.0 mi ²), of which 0.2 km ² water surface.

History

Rexburg was heavily damaged by the spill of the Teton Dam on June 5, 1976. The entire northern part of the city was under water for days. In this disaster, 11 people lost their lives and more than 13,000 people lost their homes. The dam was not rebuilt after being destroyed again.
