Madison County (Idaho)
Madison County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rexburg.
Geography
The County is located almost in the extreme east of Idaho, about 25 kilometers, from Wyoming and has an area of 1226 square kilometers, of which five square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Fremont County, Teton County, Bonneville County and Jefferson County. The County is predominantly shaped by the foothills of the Yellowstone Plateau on the north bank of the Snake River. In the west, it runs out in the Snake River Plain.
History
Madison County was formed on February 19, 1913 from parts of Fremont County. It was named after U.S. President James Madison.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000, lived in Madison County 27 467 people in 7,129 households and 4,854 families. The population density was 22 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 95.50 percent White, 0.24 percent African American, 0.33 percent Native American, 0.57 percent Asian, 0.18 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 2.23 percent from other races groups; 0.95 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.92 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 7,129 households out of which 39.0 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.1 percent were married couples living together. 5.7 percent were single mothers and 31.9 percent were non-families. 12.7 percent of all households and 5.6 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.66 and the average family size was 3.70 persons.
26.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 39.9 percent of 18 to 24 years 16.0 percent between 25 and 44, 11.9 percent between 45 and 64 years. 6.0 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 21 years. For every 100 females there were 90.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 83.6 males.
The median household income was $ 32,607, and the median income for a family $ 40,880. Males have a median income of $ 29,299, women $ 18,628. The per capita income was $ 10,956. 10.1 percent of families and 30.5 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
