Madison County (Idaho)

Madison County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rexburg.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme east of Idaho, about 25 kilometers, from Wyoming and has an area of ​​1226 square kilometers, of which five square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Fremont County, Teton County, Bonneville County and Jefferson County. The County is predominantly shaped by the foothills of the Yellowstone Plateau on the north bank of the Snake River. In the west, it runs out in the Snake River Plain.

History

Madison County was formed on February 19, 1913 from parts of Fremont County. It was named after U.S. President James Madison.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000, lived in Madison County 27 467 people in 7,129 households and 4,854 families. The population density was 22 people per square kilometer.
