Teton County (Idaho)
Teton County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Driggs.
Geography
The County is located in Eastern Idaho, bordering Wyoming, is located about 70 km from Montana in the north and has an area of 1167 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Fremont County, Madison County and Bonneville County. The County is predominantly shaped by the Teton Mountain Range, in the north- west it runs in the plane of the Snake River Plain from.
History
Teton County was formed on January 26, 1915 from parts of Bingham County, Fremont County and Madison County. It was named after the Teton Mountains.
Demographic data
According to the census of 2000, there were 5,999 people in Teton County. Of these, 31 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 2,078 households and 1,464 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 91.3 percent white, 0.2 percent African American, 0.6 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian, 0.2 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 6.7 percent from other races groups; 0.8 percent are descended from two or more races. 11.8 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,078 households out of which 39.7 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.3 percent were married couples living together. 5.8 percent were single mothers and 29.5 percent were non-families. 21.3 percent of all households and 5.3 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.43 persons.
31.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.1 percent 18-24 Years, 33.8 percent between 25 and 44, 18.9 percent between 45 and 64 years. 7.5 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 112.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over 114.5 males.
The median household income was $ 41,968, and the median income for a family $ 45,848. Males have a median income of $ 32,309, women $ 22,243. The per capita income was $ 17,778. 9.7 percent of families and 12.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
