Gem County, Idaho

Gem County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Emmett.

Geography

The County is located in western Idaho, is about 35 kilometers from Oregon and has an area of ​​1465 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Adams County, Valley County, Boise County, Ada County, Canyon County, Payette County and Washington County. In the south the county extends into the plane of the Snake River Plain.

History

Gem County was formed on March 19, 1915 from parts of Boise County and Canyon County.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 15,181 people in Gem County. Of these, 199 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 5,539 households and 4,176 families.
