Gooding County, Idaho

Gooding County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Gooding.

Geography

The County is located in south-central Idaho, is about 80 km from Nevada and has an area of 1901 square kilometers, of which eight square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Elmore County, Twin Falls County, Jerome County, Lincoln County and Camas County. It lies entirely in the plane of the Snake River Plain.

History

Gooding County was formed on January 28, 1913 from parts of Lincoln County. It was named for Frank R. Gooding, a rancher, U.S. Senator and Governor of Idaho.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2000 lived in Gooding County 14,155 people in 5,046 households and 3,718 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer.
