Power County, Idaho
Power County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is American Falls.
Geography
The County is located in southeastern Idaho, is located in the south about 45 miles from Utah and has an area of 3736 square kilometers, of which 96 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Bannock County, Oneida County, Bingham County, Blaine County and Cassia County. The County is located predominantly in the Basin -and- Range region, the north-west projected into the plane of the Snake River Plain.
History
Power County was formed on January 30, 1913 from parts of Bingham County, Blaine County and the Oneida County. It was named after the Falls water power plant at American.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in the Power County 7538 people in 2560 households and 1968 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 83.78 percent White, 0.09 percent African American, 3.29 percent Native American, 0.32 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 11.10 percent from other races groups; 1.38 percent were descended from two or more races. 21.73 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 2,560 households out of which 40.9 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 63.4 percent were married couples living together. 8.8 percent were single mothers and 23.1 percent were non-families. 20.3 percent of all households and 8.8 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.92 and the average family size was 3.38 persons.
33.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.4 percent 18-24 Years, 25.4 percent between 25 and 44, 22.0 percent between 45 and 64 years. 10.4 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 101.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 99.9 males.
The median household income was 32,226 dollars, and the median income for a family $ 36,685. Males had a median income of $ 29,676, women $ 20,930. The per capita income was $ 14,007. 10.8 percent of families and 16.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
