Canyon County, Idaho
Canyon County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Caldwell.
Geography
The County is located in southwest Idaho, on the west by Oregon and has an area of 1563 square kilometers, of which 36 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Payette County, Gem County, Ada County and Owyhee County. It lies entirely in the plane of the Snake River Plain.
History
Canyon County was formed on March 7, 1891 parts of Ada County. Early immigrants moved towards the west coast by this County as the Oregon Trail conducted here.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Canyon County 131 441 people in 45 018 households and 33 943 families. The population density was 86 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 83.10 percent White, 0.32 percent African American, 0.85 percent Native American, 0.80 percent Asian, 0.13 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 12.17 percent from other races groups; 2.62 percent were descended from two or more races. 18.61 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 45 018 households out of which 39.8 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.7 percent were married couples living together. 10.1 percent were single mothers and 24.6 percent were non-families. 19.8 percent of all households and 8.4 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.85 and the average family size was 3.28 persons.
30.9 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 10.7 percent of 18 to 24 years 28.3 percent between 25 and 44, 19.1 percent between 45 and 64 years. 11.0 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 96.3 males.
The median household income was $ 35,884, and the median income for a family $ 40,377. Males had a median income of $ 29,418, women $ 22,044. The per capita income was $ 15,155. 8.7 percent of families and 12.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
