Jefferson County (Idaho)
Jefferson County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Rigby.
Geography
The County is located in east-central Idaho, is in the north about 60 km from Montana, on the east about 70 km from Wyoming and has an area of 2863 square kilometers, of which 27 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Clark County, Fremont County, Madison County, Bonneville County, Bingham County and Butte County. It lies entirely in the plane of the Snake River Plain.
History
Jefferson County was formed on February 18, 1913 from parts of Fremont County. It was named after the U.S. President Thomas Jefferson.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Jefferson County 19,155 people in 5,901 households and 4,880 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 90.87 percent White, 0.28 percent African American, 0.46 percent Native American, 0.23 percent Asian, 0.08 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 6.76 percent from other races groups; 1.33 percent were descended from two or more races. 9.96 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,901 households out of which 47.6 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 72.6 percent were married couples living together. 6.8 percent were single mothers and 17.3 percent were non-families. 15.2 percent of all households and 7.4 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 3.23 and the average family size was 3.62 persons.
36.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.6 percent between 18 and 24 years 25.5 percent between 25 and 44, 19.3 percent between 45 and 64 years. 9.3 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 29 years. For every 100 females there were 102.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over 101.0 males.
The median household income was $ 37,737, and the median income for a family $ 41,530. Males have a median income of $ 31,298, women $ 19,755. The per capita income was $ 13,838. 8.0 percent of families and 10.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
