Jerome County, Idaho
Jerome County is a county located in the state of Idaho in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Jerome.
Geography
The County is located in south-central Idaho, is about 70 km from Nevada and Utah away and has an area of 1559 square kilometers, of which 5 square kilometers is water area. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lincoln County, Gooding County, Twin Falls County, Cassia County and Minidoka County.
The landscape is determined by the level de Snake River Plain, the southern boundary is formed by the Snake River. Centrally located in the County was during the internment of Japanese -born Americans in the Second World War, the Minidoka War Relocation Center. It is now recognized as a memorial.
History
Jerome County was formed on February 8, 1919 from parts of Jerome County.
Demographic data
According to the census in 2000 lived in Jerome County 18,342 people in 6,298 households and 4,805 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 86.99 percent White, 0.23 percent African American, 0.69 percent Native American, 0.27 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 9.84 percent from other races groups; 1.94 percent were descended from two or more races. 17.17 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6,298 households out of which 39.1 percent of children under the age of 18 living with them. 63.8 percent were married couples living together. 7.6 percent were single mothers and 23.7 percent were non-families. 19.5 percent of all households and 8.7 percent living alone who is 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.89 and the average family size was 3.33 persons.
31.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.9 percent 18-24 Years, 27.1 percent between 25 and 44, 20.2 percent between 45 and 64 years. 12.3 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 104.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over 104.5 males.
The median household income was $ 34,696, and the median income for a family $ 39,083. Males had a median income of $ 28,036, women $ 20,194. The per capita income was $ 15,530. 13.9 percent of the population and 10.7 percent of families are below the poverty line.
