Rexhep Mitrovica

Rexhep Mitrovica ( other name variant Rexhep Bey Peja; * about 1887 in Kosovska Mitrovica, † May 21 ( or possibly May 25th), 1967 in Istanbul, Turkey) was an Albanian politician.

As a child of a large landowning family in the area of present-day Kosovo was born, he studied in Istanbul. In 1912 he took part in Kosovo at the Albanian uprising. He belonged to the Albanian National Assembly, which met on 28 November 1912 in Valona and proclaimed the independence of Albania. In the Albanian government under Ahmet Zogu, he was Minister of Education from 1923 until he was imprisoned in 1926 for his involvement in a conspiracy against them. He was pardoned in 1927.

He was a member of the nationalist organization Balli Kombëtar. After the German invasion in Albania, which occurred in 1943 after the capitulation of Italy, he was born on November 3, 1943 Prime Minister of the Albanian puppet government. In June 1944 he resigned for health reasons. Later he lived again in Istanbul, where he worked as a leader of a group of emigrants.
