Future

As part of the modernization drive 2 for transport railway stations in North Rhine -Westphalia is currently (as of summer 2010) performed a large-scale modernization of the railway station. In addition to accessible entrances and a tunnel breakthrough is realized to the west side of downtown, so that the station can be accessed from both sides. In addition, one of the two disused platforms is reactivated in the course of the work, so instead of the previous four then are six platform tracks for passenger transport available. This creates the possibility that the Rhine -Münster -Express can drive in the future every hour to Rheine, because then the possibility exists that the train without conflict with the InterCity can contact there. In turn, newly introduced in December 2008 regional rail 68 is then adjusted again.
