Rhinelandic

The term Rheinische language is used very inconsistently:

  • The means Franconian dialect group the Ripuarian - includes ( from the Moselle to about Siegen) - (west of Siegen wide area around Cologne, including Aachen and surroundings ) and Moselle Franconian group.
  • The Südniederfränkische group - runs half-moon shape of Heinberg ( north of Aachen ) on Uerdingen and the northern part of the district of Neuss and to Remscheid near Wuppertal ). Since the Südniederfränkische in the West continues in the Netherlands and neighboring Belgium in Limburg, the languages were referred to in the German part of the dialect area as Ostlimburgisch. Today this term is rather limited to a narrow border area in the province of Limburg and the neighboring German territory to Krefeld and Viersen. For the südniederfränkischen dialects between the Rhine and Wuppertal, there is also the designation " (Western) or (low ) Bergisch ".
  • The Kleverländische or Northern Lower Franconian group with the Ostbergischen, ( to Kleve and Wesel and Venlo to Duisburg, Mülheim an der Ruhr, parts of Oberhausen, Essen-Werden, Langenberg in the Rhineland, Wuppertal to Apply )
