Rhys Pollock

Rhys Pollock ( born March 14, 1980 in Sydney ) is an Australian cyclist.

Career

Pollock, who grew up in Sydney, began early with the BMX riding. About the BMX he came to the mountain. In 1998 he won at the Australian U19 Mountain Bike Championship silver medal, and thus got a starting place for Australia at the World Mountain Bike Championships in 1998 in Calgary. The following year, 1999, he won the national U23 championship and finished in the pros the eighth. In two subsequent starts in the mountain bike world cup in Sydney and Belgium, he remained without front placement. Also at the Mountain Bike World Championships 1999 in Åre, Sweden, he failed to win a medal. After gaining some experience in road racing in 2000, he decided to concentrate on road racing after an injury break and gave his mountain bike career on it.

Pollock began in 2003 as an amateur with pedals d'Alsace. In two years with this team, he reached a total of 19 top- 10 finishes, five podium finishes and a win. In September 2004, he joined the team UNO. For the 2005 season, he signed a contract with the Marco Polo Cycling Team. In 2007 he turned pro and got a contract with Driving Force Logistics, before he went only a year later back to the Marco Polo Cycling Team. This year he won in addition to the North German Championship in Oberhausen also Berlare Tour. Since 2009 he runs ( 2009-2010 Drapac Porsche Cycling) for the team Drapac. In 2010 he won the Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Classic as well as a stage of the Tour of Tasmania.
