Ribera Alta del Ebro

The Ribera Alta del Ebro (German Upper River Ebro ) is a Comarca (administrative unit ) of the Autonomous Region of Aragon in Spain, which was established on 1 July 2002. It lies in the west of the province of Zaragoza and has an area of 416 km ² 26 952 inhabitants. Thus, the Comarca reached a density of 64,79 inhabitants per square kilometer. Its capital is Alagon.

The comarca of Cinco Villas bordered to the north, on the west by the comarca Campo de Borja, to the south and east by the Valdejalón Comarca Zaragoza.

Ribera Alta del Ebro includes the municipalities ( municipios ) Alagon, Alcalá de Ebro, Bárboles, Boquiñeni, Cabañas de Ebro, Figueruelas, Gallur, Grisén, La Joyosa, Luceni, Pedrola, Pinseque, Pleitas, Pradilla de Ebro, Remolinos, Sobradiel and Torres de Berrellén.

The economy of the area was originally dominated by agriculture, especially the cultivation of garden produce, in the fertile areas between the Ebro and its tributary Jalon. Since then General Motors in 1982 in Figueruelas built a Opel factory, this not only dominates the economy of the Comarca, but is alone and under inclusion of its suppliers biggest employer of Aragon.
