Ricardo Ezzati Andrello

Cardinal Ricardo Ezzati Andrello SDB ( born January 7, 1942 in Campiglia dei Berici ) is an Italian religious priests and archbishop of Santiago de Chile.

Life

Growing up in Italy, where he attended primary school in Campiglia dei Berici and the middle school and the Salesian College in Penango. In 1959 he went to Chile, there came into the Congregation of the Salesians of Don Bosco. After the novitiate in Quilpué he laid on January 31, 1961 from the religious vows (first professed ).

This was followed by studies in philosophy and education at an institute his religious order, which is affiliated to the Catholic University of Valparaíso. From 1964 to 1966 he taught at the Liceo Camilo Ortúzar Montt, Santiago de Chile. He then studied theology at the Università Pontificia Salesian in Rome. Here he earned a licentiate in Catholic theology. After studying at the University of Strasbourg, he received a master's degree in religious education.

Ricardo Ezzati Andrello received on 18 March 1970, the ordination. In the years 1971 and 1972 he worked in the Salesian Institute in Pastoral Officer Valdivia. From 1973 to 1977 he was Superior of the Salesian community in Concepción and at the same time the local College of the Salesians. In 1978 he came back to Santiago. There he worked as director of the Seminary of the Salesians, as Provincial, lecturer of Fundamental Theology at the Theological Faculty of the Catholic Pontifical University of Chile and as head of the Catechetical Institute.

On 28 June 1996 by Pope John Paul II appointed Bishop of Valdivia. The episcopal ordination gave him on September 8, 1996, the Archbishop of Santiago, Cardinal Carlos Oviedo Cavada; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Temuco, Sergio Contreras Otoniel Navia, and Archbishop Francisco Javier Errazuriz Curia Ossa.

On 10 July 2001, he was named John Paul II appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Santiago de Chile and at the same titular bishop of La Imperial. On 27 December 2006 he was appointed Pope Benedict XVI. to the Metropolitan Archbishop of Concepción, on 15 December 2010 as Archbishop of Santiago de Chile.

In solemn consistory of 22 February Pope Francis took him a cardinal priest with the titular church of the Most Holy Redeemer a Valmelaina to the College of Cardinals.
