Ricardo Ffrench-Davis

Ricardo Ffrench -Davis (* June 27, 1936 ) is a Chilean economist. He is a professor at the Universidad Católica de Chile and was, among other things of 1992-2004 Principal Regional Adviser of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean

Biography

Ricardo Ffrench -Davis was born on 27 June 1936. In the 1950s, he was among a group of Chileans who have obtained a scholarship from the University of Chicago, he formally thus one of the Chicago Boys. He earned a master's degree in 1961 and 1971, the Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Chicago. He also earned the Ingeniero Comercial at the Universidad Católica de Chile. There he teaches to this day as a professor economics and international studies. From 1964-70 he was Deputy Manager of the Central Bank of Chile ( Banco Central de Chile). 1976-90 he served as co-founder of the think tank Corporación de Estudios para Latinoamérica ( CIEPLAN ). 1990-92 he was Director of Research at the Banco Central de Chile. From 1992-2004 he was Principal Regional Adviser of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean.

In 2005 he was awarded the Chilean National Prize for Humanities and Social Sciences ( Premio Nacional de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades de Chile).
