Ricardo Infante

Ricardo Roberto Infante ( born June 21, 1924 in La Plata, † December 14, 2008 ) was an Argentine footballer. With the national team of his native country, he participated in the Football World Cup 1958.

Career

Club career

Ricardo Infante began his footballing career in 1942 with Estudiantes de La Plata in his hometown. With the club where he played together among other things with other Argentine football greats of that time like Manuel Pellegrina or Gabriel Ogando, he won though no title in La Liga, the top division in Argentine football, but scored in 328 games 180 goals for Estudiantes and is the sixth best player in terms of the number of goals in the first Argentine league today. All his goals in the Primera División added together, it comes to 217 goals in 439 games. Famous also be hit is in a league match against Rosario Central on September 19 1948 ( Score: 2-0), as Infante sank the ball with the Rabona trick from thirty-five meters in goal. Overall it remained until 1952, when Estudiantes, before moving to CA Huracán in Buenos Aires. He stayed there for another four years before he went back to Estudiantes de La Plata and four years to 1960 played for his hometown club football. There he again achieved many goals and is now in the club ranking of the Estudiantes player with the second most goals behind Manuel Pellegrina. In 1961 he again left Estudiantes, leaving the following year, end his career at Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata, the local rivals of his old club. In 1961, he finished his career then and was a youth coach in La Plata. For a short time he coached in 1960, the first team of Estudiantes de La Plata as player-coach.

National

In the Argentine national football team Ricardo Infante was used 1952-1958 five times. In those five games, he scored two goals. From Argentina coach Guillermo Stábile, even top scorer in the FIFA World Cup in Uruguay in 1930, he was appointed to the South American squad for the FIFA World Cup 1958 in Sweden.
