Ricardo José Weberberger

Richard Joseph Weber Berger and Ricardo José Weberberger OSB ( born September 5, 1939 in Leonfelden, Upper Austria, † August 17, 2010 in Linz) was the Austrian bishop of the diocese Barreiras in the state of Bahia, Brazil.

Life

Josef Weber Berger grew up in Gaspoltshofen and graduated from the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmuenster. He joined in 1958 in the Benedictine Abbey Kremsmuenster, took the religious name Richard and laid in 1962 solemnly professed from. After a theology and philosophy studies in Rome, Salzburg and lions he received on August 15, 1964, the ordination.

After his doctorate, he was pastor in various churches and Spiritual Director of the Benedictine monastery in Steiner an der Traun. He taught religion and philosophy at Stiftsgymnasium in Kremsmuenster and in Schlierbach.

After the Benedictines of Kremsmuenster 1970 had taken over the parish Barreiras in Northeast Brazil for pastoral care, Weberberger was there as a priest in 1974. On July 11, 1979 consecrated Archbishop Augustin Mayer Weberberger bishop and he was given the leadership of the newly established Diocese of Barreiras. Co-consecrators at the consecration were the Bishop of Linz Franz Zauner and his auxiliary bishop, later Cor - Unum president Alois Wagner. He was made an honorary citizen of several cities and the State of Bahia. 1999 awarded him the province of Upper Austria with the Human Rights Award of the Province of Upper Austria. 2009 celebrated Bishop Weberberger in Kremsmünster its 30th anniversary as a bishop and received the Grand Gold Medal with Star for Services to the Republic of Austria.

In May 2010, he learned of his cancer and was treated in Linz, where he died in Linz at the hospital of the Sisters of Mercy.
