Ricardo La Volpe (2008)

Ricardo Antonio La Volpe Quarchione ( born February 6, 1952 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a former football player and current coach. From 2002 to 2006 he was head coach of the Mexican national team.

Career as a player

His professional career denied La Volpe 1970-1983 in Argentina and most recently in Mexico. At the 1978 World Cup coach César Luis Menotti, he was appointed as the third goalkeeper in the Argentine national team that won the tournament.

Career as a coach

In Mexico, La Volpe was employed prior to his commitment to the association in numerous clubs; he started as coach at Oaxtepec 1983-84, his subsequent stations in Mexico were Ángeles ( 1984-1986 ), Guadalajara (1989 to 1990), Querétaro (1990 to 1991), Atlante ( 1991-1996 ), América ( In season 1996/97), Atlas (1997 to 2001) and Toluca ( 2001-2002 ). With Atlante he won the Mexican championship in the 1992/93 season. Through his coaching positions, he was very knowledgeable in Mexican soccer and was committed by the Mexican federation on 4 February 2003. The dark-haired man with a bushy mustache was the successor to the Soccer World Cup 2002 by the off in the second round against the United States disgraced Javier Aguirre Onaindia.

In September 2010 he was appointed head coach of the Costa Rican national team, gave this post but because of disagreements with the players already in August 2011 again. On 28 August, he became the successor to the sacked the day before Sebastián Méndez as coach of the Argentine first division club Banfield, 2011 he took over as the Table of the Apertura. End of December 2011 he became replaced by Jorge da Silva and triggered early January 2012 his contract at the Argentines on.
