Riccardo Di Segni

Riccardo Di Segni ( born November 13, 1949 in Rome ) is an Italian physician and the Chief Rabbi of Rome.

Di Segni is the son of a Jewish- Romanian father and an Ashkenazi mother from Eastern Europe. About his mother, he is from the third generation of a family of rabbis. He is attending physician specializing in radiology and works primarily at the hospital San Giovanni in Rome. In 1973, he completed his rabbinical studies at the Collegio Rabbinico Italiano di Roma, which he is Director since 1999. Di Segni was elected in 2001 (by 2002) to the Chief Rabbi of Rome ( Rabbino Capo di Roma). Di Segni was in good relationship with Pope John Paul II, he also participated in his funeral. Shortly after the Italian Rabbinical Assembly had adopted a disruption of inter-religious dialogue, Di Segni expressed concern about the state of Christian-Jewish relations.
