Riccioli (crater)

Riccioli is a 150 km wide at the western edge of the moon Wallpaper level. It borders on the great Grimaldi impact basins and how this is partially covered by dark, basaltic lava.

The base of the wall plane is not smooth, but strongly structured. To the southeast draw three parallel grooves Rimae Riccioli.

Riccioli, together with the almost equally large craters Grimaldi and Hevelius an equilateral triangle on the edge of Oceanus Procellarum.

The crater is named after the Italian astronomer Giovanni Riccioli and Jesuits.
