Richar, Duke of Lower Lorraine

Richar († 973) was Count of Hainaut from 963 from 968 and also owners of the executive power in Lower Lorraine.

After the banishment of the rebel Earl Reginar III. of Hainault in 957 and the death of the childless Duke Godfrey I in the year 964, the two offices were occupied with the Earl Richar.

He is probably identical with the mentioned in a deed dated June 2, 965 Count Richar. This Earl Richar has - led jointly with Brun Emperor Otto I, to establish a foundation in memory of the late Godfrey I - loud certificate. It can be concluded that Richar was a follower of Brun, in whose interest he reigned in the northern part of his duchy. However, this identity remains in doubt, since such regent usually lead the title dux, what Richar otherwise can not be proven.

Maybe he is also identical with Richar of Aspel, Count of Lüttichgau who was ( " The beginnings of the house of Lorraine "), a brother of the Count Palatine Godfrey of Lorraine and thus an uncle of his (presumably died at a young age ) predecessor by Hlawitschka, but also a brother of Bruns predecessor Wichfrid (about * 901, † 953 ). Richar of Aspel in turn was the father of Godizo of Aspel - Heimbach, Count of Hamaland and also in Lüttichgau.

After Richars death occupied Emperor Otto I the Duchy of Lower Lorraine 978 with Charles, the younger son of the French king Louis IV and later pretender to the French throne.
