Richard Asher

Sir Richard Alan John Asher, MD, FRCP ( born April 3, 1912 in Brighton, United Kingdom, † April 25, 1969 in Marylebone, United Kingdom) was a physician at the Central Middlesex Hospital. The internist named in an article for the description of the associated disease for the first time the Munchausen syndrome. The article appeared in 1951 in " The Lancet ", a prestigious medical journal. He was the father of actress Jane Asher and Peter Asher, a member of the pop duo Peter & Gordon, and music producer.

Richard Asher suffered in later years from depression and died at the age of 57 years, allegedly by suicide.
