Peter Asher

Peter Asher ( born June 22, 1944 in London, England ) is an English guitarist, singer, music manager and producer. Prior to his career as a music producer, he celebrated in the 1960's successes as part of the pop duo Peter & Gordon.

Biography

Peter Asher is the son of the physician Sir Richard Asher (1912-1969), who described the Munchausen syndrome for the first time, and the music professor Margaret Asher (1914-2011), whose most famous pupil was George Martin. Asher has two younger sisters, actress and author Jane Asher ( b. 1946 ) and the actress Clare Asher ( b. 1948 ). From the age of eight years had Peter Asher as an actor in various film, stage and television productions, including the film "White Woman in the Jungle" ( Planter's Wife, 1952) and the television series " The Adventures of Robin Hood" ( The Adventures of Robin Hood, 1955-1960 ).

At Westminster School Asher met the classmates Gordon Waller (1945-2009), with whom he began performing as a musical duet, cafes and clubs. Starting in 1962, they called Peter & Gordon. In 1964 they had their biggest hit with A World Without Love, written by Paul McCartney, who was then with Jane Asher together. Through this acquaintance, the duo often unreleased material from McCartney received for recording.

1965 Peter Asher was a witness at the marriage of his friend John Dunbar with Marianne Faithfull. In November of the same year Asher and Dunbar opened along with Barry Miles, the Indica Gallery.

In 1968, parted ways Asher and Waller. Peter Asher began for the disk label of the Beatles, Apple Records, A & R Manager to work. He undertook the then-unknown James Taylor and produced its first album. Although the album was not a great success, Asher went with Taylor to America to work as his manager and producer. This collaboration resulted in a series of successful albums, including Sweet Baby James (1970), Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon (1971 ), JT (1977) and Flag ( 1979).

Additional artists for whom Asher over the years worked as a producer include Linda Ronstadt, JD Souther, Bonnie Raitt, Cher, Diana Ross, Randy Newman and many more.

1973 Peter Asher was one of the partners, which opened in Los Angeles, the Roxy Theatre on Sunset Strip.

From 1995 to 2002 Asher was Senior Vice President at Sony Music Entertainment. In 2002 he was Co -President, then President of the Artists Agency 2005 Sanctuary Artist Management. In 2006 he moved back to forward to join his friend Simon Renshaw in the year, who founded the agency Strategic Artist Management.

As of 2005, were Peter Asher and Gordon Waller, who died in 2009, occasionally together again on.

Austin Powers

There were always rumors that Mike Myers Asher had used as a model for his agent spoof Austin Powers. Asher denied this, however, was that Austin Powers and the young Peter Asher is astoundingly similar.
