Richard Davy

Richard Davy (* um 1465, † 1507 ) was an English organist, choirmaster and composer.

About childhood and adolescence is not known. 1483 he became a member of Magdalen College, Oxford, and took over from 1490 for the position of organist and choirmaster. After he probably 1494 left college, lose track of him. Although various information concerning people with the name Richard Davy handed (including in Blickling ), but none of them could be identified with the composer Richard Davy.

He created sacred music essentially. His four-part St. Matthew Passion is considered the oldest Passion music of England and is famous today because of their compositional quality.
