Richard Fritz Behrendt

Richard Fritz Behrendt ( born February 6, 1908 in Gliwice, † October 17, 1972 in Basel ) was a German sociologist.

Life

Richard F. Behrendt was the son of a factory owner in Gleiwitz (now Gliwice, Poland). He studied at the Graduate School of Nuremberg, then at the universities of Cologne and Basel ( 1931 Habilitation there ) and at the London School of Economics. From 1932 to 1934 free journalism, then 1935-40 Associate Professor of Sociology and economics at the University of Panama.

1940-53 taught at various American universities, consultant in Peru, Guatemala, Puerto Rico and Panama, and others, on behalf of the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (World Bank) and the UN. 1953 associate professor of sociology and economic organization at the University of Bern, 1956 Professor, 1960 Director of the Institute of Sociology and Socio-economic Development Studies of the University of Bern. 1965-72 Associate Professor of Sociology at the Free University of Berlin.
