Richard Hill, 7th Baron Sandys

Richard Michael Oliver Hill, 7th Baron Sandys, DL ( born July 21, 1931 † February 11, 2013 ) was a British nobleman and Conservative politician.

Richard Hill attended the Britannia Royal Naval College in Dartmouth. From 1950 to 1955 he served in the Royal Scots Greys. He then worked as a private secretary to the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem and for the charity Oxfam. When his father in 1961 in a traffic accident died, he inherited the title, associated with it seat in the British House of Lords and large land holdings near Ombersley in Worcestershire. In 1968 he was the Deputy Lieutenant of Worcestershire. In 1974, he was initially the parliamentary secretary ( Chief Whip ) the government of Prime Minister Edward Heath and then from 1974 to 1979 the parliamentary secretary of the opposition in the upper house. From 1979 to 1982 he was the Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard, and thus the deputy parliamentary secretary ( Deputy Chief Whip ) of his party in the House of Lords.

Richard Hill was married to Patricia Hill since 1961, and since the couple has no children, the title of Baron of Sandys now falls to Nicholas Wills Hill, a distant cousin in the line of the Marquess of Downshire.
