Richard Layard, Baron Layard

Richard Layard (Peter Richard Grenville Layard, born March 15, 1934) is a British economist and professor emeritus at the London School of Economics (LSE ) in London. Since 2000 he has been a representative of the Labour Party Member of the House of Lords with the title Baron Layard of Highgate.

Layard studied history at King's College, University of Cambridge and then worked as a teacher and a research fellow of the Robbins Committee on Higher Education. After studying economics at the London School of Economics, he worked then as an academic teacher at the LSE ( from 1980 until his retirement in 1999 as professor ) and as a consultant for various organizations and government agencies. The labor market reforms of Tony Blair went to the part back to its proposals.

He specialized in the education and labor economics. In recent years, he is committed to integrating insights from happiness research in economics.

Layard is married to Molly Christine Meacher (since 2006 Baroness Meacher ). He is a Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA ), of which he was in 2008 awarded the IZA Prize in Labor Economics.
