Richard Lert

Richard Lert (actually Levi, born September 19, 1885 in Vienna, † April 25, 1980 in Mountain View, California ) was an Austrian- American conductor.

Life

Lert attended the university of his native city. He came from Dusseldorf, where he worked since 1910, over the Darmstadt Opera House ( since 1912, here in 1916 married the writer Vicky tree), Frankfurt am Main ( 1916 ) and Kiel in 1919 to Hanover ( here music director ).

In 1923 he was the music director at the Mannheim National Theatre and principal conductor of the City of Mannheim. In 1928 he went to Berlin, where he was a guest conductor at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Berlin Philharmonic Hall.

After the seizure of power by the National Socialists, he emigrated in 1933 to Pasadena, where he was the Music Academy Santa Barbara led, among others, the Civic Orchestra Association and for over twenty years. He also taught at the University of Southern California and was active throughout the world as a guest conductor at major opera houses and orchestras.
