Richard Scott, Baron Scott of Foscote

Richard Rashleigh Folliott Scott, Baron Scott of Foscote PC, QC ( born October 2, 1934 in the Union of South Africa ) is a British judge and former Lord Justice.

Youth and Education

Scott was born on 2 October 1934. He went to the Michael House School, Natal in South Africa. He studied at the University of Cape Town, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1954 and then studied at Trinity College ( Cambridge ) with a degree in Law Tripos in 1957. Subsequently he spent a year as a Bigelow Fellow at the University of Chicago, where he his future wife Rima Elisa Ripoll met, who comes from Panama.

Professional career

Scott was approved in 1959 in London at the Inner Temple as a lawyer and in 1981 became a Bencher. He worked from 1960 to 1983 as a lawyer and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1975. In 1980 he was appointed Attorney General of the Duchy of Lancaster, a post which he held until 1983. He was 1981-192 Vice President and 1982-1983 President of the Bar Association.

Scott was in 1983 appointed a judge of the High Court of Justice, where he was responsible for commercial law. He was beaten at the same time knighted. From 1987 to 1991 he was Vice - Chancellor of the County Palatine of Lancaster, he was there verantwortlich.der responsible for the oversight of the economy judiciary in Northern England. In 1991 he was appointed to the Court of Appeal, and was also Lord Justice of Appeal and was appointed to the Privy Council. From 1994 to 2000 he was Vice - Chancellor of the High Court and 1995-2000 Master of the Rolls. In 2003 he became a non-permanent member of Hong Kong 's High Court of Appeals; during this time he was known by his Chinese name (Chinese施广智).

On 17 July 2000 he was appointed Lord Justice and raised as Baron Scott of Foscote for Life Peer. He put this resigned on 30 September 2009.

Scott - examination

1992 while serving as a judge at the Court of Appeal, he was elected chairman of a commission of inquiry, which should enlighten the Arms -to- Iraq scandal, in which the British government should have supported UK companies to supply weapons to Iraq. The investigation report was published in 1996, large parts of it, however, were classified as secret. Scott said it was " unfortunate and disappointing " that the government had not adjusted the laws that regulated trade in arms.

Personal

Lord Scott is married to Rima Elisa Ripoll since 1959. They have two sons and a daughter.
