Richard With

With Richard ( born September 18, 1846 in Tromsø, Norway, † February 9, 1930 in Oslo) was a Norwegian captain and shipowner. He founded the mail-boat line Hurtigruten.

Richard With was born on September 18, 1846, the fifth of nine siblings in Tromso. During his education at Teachers College in Tromsø, he traveled with his father - also a captain on merchant ships - regularly between Vardo and mountains. After completing his first mate exam in Trondheim, he went on different merchant ships several years.
