Richard Zimler

Richard Zimler (* 1956 in Roslyn Heights, Nassau County, New York State ) is an American- Portuguese journalist and writer.

After he had taken degrees in comparative religion ( Duke University, 1977) and Journalism ( Stanford University, 1982), he worked for eight years as a journalist, mainly in the area of ​​San Francisco. In 1990 he moved to Porto ( Portugal), where he has taught since then at the University journalism.

He holds both the American and Portuguese citizenship.

In the last 10 years, 7 novels were published by him:

Zimler won numerous awards for his work, including the 1994 " National Endowment of the Arts Fellowship in Fiction" Best and the 1999 Herodotus Award in the category of historical U.S. debut novel. "The Last Kabbalist of Lisbon " was declared in the UK by three recognized critics book of the year and both " The Search for Sana " and "Hunting Midnight" were nominated by the Portuguese bookstores for the " International IMPAC Literary Award ".

Zimler also writes reviews for the LA Times and the San Francisco Chronicle.
