The Stradiņš University Riga ( Latvian: Rīga Stradina universitāte, English: Riga Stradins University), RSU, is a state university in the Latvian capital Riga with a total of 6,000 students and around 360 scientific staff.

History

The Stradiņš University Riga, founded in 1919 goes back to the medical faculty of the University of Latvia Riga. 1923, the college was renamed the Riga University of Latvia (UL). In 1950, the Faculty of Medicine in the Medical Institute Riga was transferred again in 1990 and renamed in a Medical Academy of Latvia (AML ). On 13 June 2002, the Academy was officially renamed Stradiņš University Riga ( RSU). Rector Prof. Jānis Gardovskis (2009).

University

At the University of approximately 3,500 students are trained at 8 faculties; which 231 PhD students (as of 2006). Since 1990, 8 - available to 12 -semester English study programs in medicine and dentistry, now also in pharmacy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and nursing. Since 2003, the RSU takes part in the Erasmus initiative.

There are university partnerships bsp. the Otto - Friedrich University of Bamberg, the University of Trier, the Charité Berlin and the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
