Riisipere

Riisipere ( German giant mountain ) is a village ( alevik ) in the Estonian Harju County. It belongs to the municipality Nissi. Riisipere has 1051 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2004).

The village Riisipere is the birthplace of Estonian composer Raimond Valgre ( 1913-1949 ).

Manor Riisipere

The Baltic German Peter Gustav von Stackelberg was from 1818 to 1821 the manor of Riisipere ( New Riesenberg ) build. It is one of the finest examples of classicism in Estonia. The palace -like mansion and the surrounding park were described in many travelogues of the 19th century. A granite plaque commemorates the trees to the Contracting Authority of the park, Wilhelmine von Ungern- Sternberg. From 1921 to 1984 the manor house served as a home for orphans. Today it is privately owned.
