Cow horn in the morning sun

The cow horn is a 3'448 m above sea level. M. high mountain in the Bernese Alps. He is completely in the Swiss canton of Valais. The border with the Canton of Bern extends approximately 2.5 kilometers north of the summit. When viewed from the north, he appears as a shapely mountain with a Firnhaube.

The cow horn is part of Balmhorngruppe which lies between Kandersteg ( north ) and Leukerbad ( south ). To the east it is connected with the higher Balmhorn on the Jagged Ridge. To the northeast lies the Altels separated by the Black Glacier. To the west lies the Gemmipass, after which itself adjoins the Wildstrubel group. To the north you will find the cattle saddle separated the chli cow horn ( 3'003 m above sea level. M. ). To the south it falls off with steep rock walls.

As a base for an ascent via the normal route, Berghotel Schwarenbach serves to 2,060 m above sea level. M.. From this the path leads towards Gemmipass up to the north end of Stave Lake, from this to the east through a valley high up to cattle saddle ( 2,909 m above sea level. M. ). From cattle saddle, the summit is reached via the north ridge. This route can be quite common in summer and in winter as a ski tour.
